With spring arriving, NOW is the time to start assembling our 2018 volunteer army as our recruitment drive hits top gear. We need 700 people to volunteer to help make the Energy Breakthrough memorable, fun and safe. This year, we'll be holding online briefing sessions to help prospective and past volunteers better understand their role.
Past Highview College student and loved friend Kodie Smith and her family have been deeply affected by cancer. But they aren't just getting mad, they're taking on the Great Cycle Challenge. This October, they're aiming to ride 2,500 km and raise $2,500.00 to support research to find a cure for childhood cancer.
We were standing in pit lane at last year’s Energy Breakthrough event and we noticed something unique. It was Terang College’s vehicle they had built themselves. The project was designed and led by then Year 11 student Harrison Smith for his Year 12 Product Design and Technology project. With the support of his teammates, they brought this new creation to life and learnt plenty along the way, too. We caught up with the team at Terang College to get the inside story.
The Energy Breakthrough has lost a legend with the recent passing of Frank Ryan due to illness. Announcer, environmental educator and change-agent, Frank would be remembered by many for his up-front work on stage at our event. Oh, and through a joke he is responsible for our anthem: The Eye of the Tiger.
One aim of the Energy Breakthrough program is to encourage participants to examine and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment and the way people live locally and globally. The departure of our naming rights partner, the RACV, has presented the Energy Breakthrough with many changes and opportunities. One of the key roles that the RACV team performed was the development and implementation of the technical specifications of the human powered (HPV) and energy efficient vehicles (EEV). Today, we are pleased to introduce to you our two new Lead Scrutineers: Michael McTigue (pictured left) and Tim White (pictured right).
345 teams from 153 schools. Phew! It's shaping up to be a very BUSY year in schools across Victoria and beyond as they prepare for the 2018 Energy Breakthrough on 21 - 25 November, 2018 in Maryborough, Victoria and we've just published our 2018 Entry Lists.
On December 22, 2017, professional cyclist Jason Lowndes was killed after being struck by a car whilst training near Mandurang, just outside of Bendigo. Now, with the support of the Lowndes family, the Bendigo Cycling Network is organising a Ride of Silence on Saturday 19th May 2018 to bring collective attention to road safety.
After 26 years, the RACV has decided to withdraw from the Energy Breakthrough. The Energy Breakthrough will continue in 2018 and beyond. The Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC) and the Country Education Partnership (CEP) are proud of the Energy Breakthrough and how it has evolved with the support of the RACV. The CGSC and the CEP remain committed to this outstanding education program and look forward to the next phase of its development.
