About Nigel Preston

Nigel Preston is a self-confessed 'HPV Tragic'. After 'catching the bug' from his older brother, he helped launch the Energy Breakthrough program at Eaglehawk SC with his dad and some mates way back in 1998. Having participated in the EB for four years he finished his VCE in 2001 and volunteering to help with the event management straight away. He's been helping out ever since. Nigel has also been a part of teams that have taken line honours at the EB in 2000 & 2001 (Bendigo Senior SC); the Australian International Pedal Prix 2003, 2004 & 2009 (Bendigo Youth Racing); and the Wonthaggi Human Powered Grand Prix in 2019.

Get up to speed with our EB Explainer Webinars

Get up to speed with one of our 'EB Explainer Webinars' to be held online on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th of May between 4:15pm - 5:00pm. We know that with the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020 and 2021, many Energy Breakthrough programs have new students, new teachers and new parents who have never participated before. With this in mind, we are hosting two 'EB Explainer Webinars' to help educate and inspire the 2022 generation of Team Managers and students. Please note: The session will be repeated each time, so you'll only need to attend once!

Nominate your school to share your EB journey with us this year

This year, we are seeking out four or more schools to share their Energy Breakthrough journey with us and the broader EB community. Through a series of progress reports published at the end of each term, we’ll be able to find out what the students and teachers have been up to, what’s gone well, what’s not gone so well and what they’re looking forward to in the term ahead.

Survey Time

As part of our post-event evaluation process, we the Energy Breakthrough has not ONE but TWO surveys open right now to capture people's feedback, assess how the year went and help plan for the future. One survey is designed to capture general event and program feedback, whilst the second survey is designed for our volunteers.

Records broken and a 54 second gap in the 24 Hour Secondary Trial

It was an electrifying finish between our two 24-hour trial winners, St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar’s Jupiter and Caulfield Grammar School’s The Big Cheese in the final minutes of the 2019 Energy Breakthrough. By the time the checkered flag came down, 54 seconds was all that separated the record-breaking teams.
