With rain threatening skies yet pleasant conditions a record-breaking 68 teams took to the track at Casey Fields in Cranbourne for the first round of the 2015 Victorian HPV Series. Many categories battled it tightly for their respective category titles throughout the duration of the 6-hour endurance trial.

Onto the results…

Junior Secondary Class
With a large field of fifteen entrants across the class, it was a closely run race between the top two teams with Miss Janey from Maiden Gully Primary School finishing on 137 laps, 5 laps ahead of second place getters Overtaker from Frankston Primary School. Third place went to Velocity from White Hills Primary School on 117 laps.

Middle Secondary Class
Emerald District Education Centre’s (EDEC), Gremlins Too finished on 120 laps and proved too strong for Introuble from Girton Grammar School finishing a close 4 laps behind in second place on 116 laps. Mt Eliza’s Munchkins finished on 106 laps taking out third place.

Senior Secondary Class
With constant leader changeovers throughout the race it was Intrepid from Girton Grammar School that finished on 138 laps, only one lap ahead of second place and previous 2014 series winners Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies from EDEC and third place getters Horton from Drouin Secondary College on 120 laps.

Open Secondary Class
Another constant battle throughout the trial but it was Perzeus from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School that pulled away from Asphalt Melter from Woodleigh College who finished on 145 and 142 laps respectively. Third place went to Slippery Suzie from Crusoe College finishing on 129 laps.

Female Class
With a brand new vehicle and team-name Pegasus the top girls team from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar were out to defend their title of category winners in the female class. The girls managed to finish strongly on 134 laps, taking out the win on the day making round one, their sixteenth consecutive race win. Second place went to EDEC’s, Gremlins finishing on 110 laps and The Hulk from Frankston High School finishing on 109 laps taking out third place.

Community Class
T2 from EDEC took out the category win on 166 laps finishing ahead of second place Whipstick from Wattle Racing on 155 laps and first time interstate entrants Relentless Racing (SAWAVIC) finishing a strong third on 153 laps and putting them an impressive seventh overall.

Community Elite Class
Platt Racing riders were keen to try out their new trike for 2015 and proved to be successful taking out the elite category win as well breaking the lap and distance record finishing on 177 laps. Toothless from Wattle Racing on 170 laps, and Taipan from Instinct Racing on 163 laps taking out second and third places respectively.

Veteran Class
With a record number of entrants it was a close finish with G2 Flyer from G2 Racing finishing on 147 laps and only one lap ahead of PUDS Racing from PUDS Racing. Third place getters Scorpius from St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School finished on 136 laps.

Club President Nathan Boon said “…it was a privilege to lead and work with such a dedicated team and committee in order to put on a fantastic first event on the racing calendar this year.” Mr Boon passed on his congratulations to all the teams and competitors today, and commended all of them on their efforts and looked forward to seeing them at future events on the 2015 Victorian HPV Series calendar.
