The team at Holden is again offering mentors for primary schools with a human powered vehicle entry for this year’s RACV Energy Breakthrough.

The program is a great opportunity for schools to develop a mentorship with an industry leader from Holden and for students to hear what experts are saying about the future of personal transportation and the environment.

To get you in the mood, here’s a great video clip from Holden.tv from the 2011 RACV Energy Breakthrough, including an interview with a Holden Mentor:

What do teachers say about the Holden Mentor Program?
“So far the students have thoroughly enjoyed the program and love having someone different to offer ideas and information to them. I have enjoyed the program and so have the students.”

“He spoke in a kid-friendly manner and talked about how to take corners on the track, including the best angles to use. He also spoke a lot about safety and helped the students understand the importance of it. He spoke to us about aims, values and preparation, which for a first-time school like us was really, really good.”

“My students have benefited from being able to explain how our vehicle relates to what happens in real life vehicle design.”

“I would recommend the Holden Mentor Program to other schools.”
How will it work?

Once applications are received and accepted, the program will start with a meeting of Holden Mentors and School representatives at Holden HQ
(191 Salmon Street, Port Melbourne – View Map).

Holden mentors will then communicate with HPV A teams with at least one face to face visit, via e-mail and/or telephone. Holden mentors and school teams may have regular communication throughout terms 3 & 4 in the lead up to the RACV Energy Breakthrough in November.

These conversations and discussions will help prepare teams for the event, particularly the Design & Construction and Display & Presentation components.
