This year Cobden Technical School are sharing their journey in preparation for the 2014 RACV Energy Breakthrough. Through these progress reports at the end of each term, you’ll be able to find out what the students and teachers have been up to, what’s gone well, what’s not gone so well and what they’re looking forward to in the term ahead.
We’ve put this together to showcase some of the schools involved, and to promote how they successfully operate and manage their Energy Breakthrough teams.
Cobden Technical School
What have you done this term to prepare for the Energy Breakthrough?
So far this term at Cobden Technical School we have sent out sponsorships forms within our local community for our 3 hybrid teams. Generally, our local community responds well to this and this year we are looking at modifying two of our 2-year-old cars that we used in 2013 and we also will be designing 1 brand new car for 2014. At Cobden Technical School we run through our year 11 engineering program, and also encourage and invite a few younger students. This term in particular we will begin working and learning about how the cars and their driving systems work. The students have also begun comparing the differences between premium and e85 ethanol fuel and finding advantages and disadvantages to running to each fuel.
What’s gone well?
The new students have really adapted well to the program and their willing to learn and build upon their knowledge. At this stage the enthusiasm is to be commended. Let’s hope it continues right up to Maryborough! We have some confirmation of some sponsorship already and we are keen to show them what we want to achieve this year. Cars of the Future Conference was a highlight for us as a school and a great promotion for us within our local community. We are also very excited about entering one team into the Knox Grand Prix held in late April.
What’s not gone so well?
We’re a very happy bunch here at Cobden Technical School this term!
What are your plans for next term?
Next term we plan to refurbish and complete one whole canopy of one of our cars and re-shape two of our old cars in preparation for the Energy Breakthrough in November.
